Our ambition in designing a hotel setting is to generate an experience that departs from everyday living. An experience that makes you feel special – embedded in the vibrant heart of bustling Pererenan and open to the elements, yet in a world of your own.

At guest level, the building is enveloped with a permeable screen to create privacy and subdued light conditions. Each extraordinarily spacious suite is configured as the inverse of a typical room. A semi-open bathing area sits between the screen and the sleeping area, which acts as the real nucleus.

The design for Further aims to generate a sense of serenity, mystery and hospitality, inspired by tropical architecture, protected by the direct sun and permeable to the breeze and the environment, with a materiality enriched by the beauty of imperfection of the local handmade process. It’s about blending worlds in terms of the landscape and the design language. When those moments collide, light and shade emerge. Not everything can be light, because the moment it is, we lose its beauty.

Room to recentre

When you enter, depending on the typology of the room, there is a living area in the centre, a space of void, while the night area is in-built alongside a grand opening and slightly suspended from the ground. This area can also be used for relaxation and reading. We wanted to convey a sense of airy feeling and spaciousness in continuity with the exterior buffer-terrace. The bathroom is equally in continuity with the exterior, offering a private, functional yet special experience with its open-air showers. The intimacy of the room is preserved by the brick blocks that create a filter towards the actual exterior.
